Simulating the effects of redesigned street-scale built environments on access/egress pedestrian flows to metro stations

Abstract In urban renewal processes, metro line systems are widely used to accommodate the massive traffic needs and stimulate redevelopment of local area. The route choice pedestrians, emanating from or going stations, is influenced by street-scale built environment. Many processes involve improvement street-level environment thus influence pedestrian flows. To assess effects design on flows, this article presents results a simulation model behavior around Yingkoudao station in city center Tianjin, China. Simulated flows based 4 scenarios changes characteristics compared. Results indicate that main streets disproportionally more affected than smaller streets. promotion an intensified land use mix does not lead high increase number pedestrians who choose involved when traveling from/to station, assuming fixed destination choice.
